Notable Things That happened This week
Intro
For some reason, I'm deciding that I'd like to try to write a blog post every week to make my blog have more posts on it. Why? I have no idea. But I do like writing so yeah. Also I am hoping that, maybe somehow in the process of doing this, I can identify things worth paying attention to that happened during the week. Mainly so that when somebody asks me, "So how was your week?" I will have an actual answer for them. My boiler plate response has usually been "Oh, well, pretty good. Not too much happened, pretty borring week all around." But I don't have to say that.
You know, lots of stuff happens to me during any given week. I do stuff, say stuff, talk about stuff, work on stuff, and stuff like that. But for whatever reason, I'm never able to synthesize anything that happens in my life into a conversation, unless I am specifically asked about it or, in the process of conversing, I am reminded of an event or situation that happened to me and then I can talk about it. Overall though, all the things that happen seem to be stored away in my mind until I need them. Is that weird or what? Why can't I, when thinking about the week that I just lived, actually identify anything that happened to me during it?
I think usually that, most of the time, nothing really really really really really important happens and unless it is really really really really really important I don't necessarily ever think about it. That makes sense. I guess to me, most things are not important enough to talk about. I'm an introvert though. I know people who will talk about anything whether it has significant importance/informational value or not, because they are normal people and are aware of how to, ya know, socialize.
But, I guess my original point was that I was hoping I could get better at recalling things that happened during my week or get better at talking about things that happened during my week or... something. Heck I don't know. This will hopefully be a useful exercise in some form or fashion.
So what did happen During The Week, Anyway?
Random things, just as I can recall them:
- I was asked if I could play "Here Comes The Bride" on piano for a wedding, in the event that another piano player wasn't able to do it. So I'm trying to learn how
- OpenAI released GPT5, which seems to be a lot worse than GPT4 somehow. I mention this because I do tend to use GPT for helping me with technical issues and this model seems dumber.
- I went to church Wednesday, and after the service I stayed for praise team rehearsal, which is an opportunity for those leading worship on Sunday mornings to practice the songs our worship leader has been lead to select for us to play. I'm playing drums this week, and I sure did have a good time with that. I came up with some parts that I thought were unique and yet still served the song and weren't too extra. I definitely do overplay sometimes which is unnecessary. I get quite carried away on occasion back there.
- I worked on a track or two with a friend of mine who I am recording a sort of prog rock type EP with. We're pretty near being done with it and all that's left to do is a little production. He came to my house Thursday to help me record drums for a little bit, and we hung out and worked on some other stuff as well.
- I had a bunch of people over last night to my house because that's what I do on Friday nights. I have friends over, we cook supper, and just hang out. Nothing super notable happened during that time, it was just time that we spent together hanging out.
- After everybody left, I ended up staying up until about 5:00 AM drinking too much cafeen and entering a weird, odly productive state of mind in which I banged out 2.3K words on owning and playing a piano, which I posted to my blog earlier today.
And so, yeah. Those are pretty much the notable things that happened this week.
That's Some Stuff
See I told you stuff happened to me during my week. I just have to improve on remembering it, or just start considering it more important so it gets remembered easier. This list of events did sort of give me a few ideas of what to write a post about, but I've already written two others this week and I don't want to write another. Because I don't want to.
But anyway since I'm trying to write a post every week, I thought I could, if I had no immediate topic to write about, just throw out a simple list of stuff that happened. That would fulfill the requirement of being a post. Other than the reasons I've already outlined, I have no idea why it matters to me that I post every week. Who's gonna read any of this anyway? But on some level I do enjoy recreational writing, and it's a lesser used creative outlet for me. Sometimes I just get in the mood to be creative, but programming or music doesn't really sound like much fun to me in that moment so I could also start doing this.
So, given my past track record, you can probably expect my new goal of posting every week to be given up on in about two weeks. But we'll see. I've made goals before to write posts more offten, or write posts on a specific topic, but they weren't easy to achieve because they weren't that well defined. Besides which, I lost interest in my topics most of the time.
You know, every time I make a goal, I think back to a PE class I took in Freshman year of high school. For some reason, the lesson our teacher, MR. Barnes, had us do this one time has always stuck with me. It was about how to make goals. He told us that we should make "SMART" goals. SMART stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound. So, is my new goal a SMART ONE?
- Specific: make a blog post
- Measurable: every week
- Achievable: very, because the blog post doesn't need to be anything amazingly long or in-depth. It just has to be a post
- Relevance: to build the habbit of posting offten, as well as to get better at recalling what actually happened during a given week so I can get better at talking about stuff with people. And also to get better at writing interestingly.
- Time-Bound: to every Saturday. If I haven't posted by then, I haven't met the goal.
The End
So yep. This is this week's blog post. Let's see how well I do at this going forward. I'll constantly be on the lookout for new topics to write a post about.
