Things I Want To Accomplish In 2026 (None Of Which I Will Actually Do)
Hello world, I am back. It's 2026. Per usual, this is the time of year where everybody makes some grand resolution to do something or other, which most of the time they've given up on by February 1st. Including me. So that's why I quit making resolutions. Besides which, I've have long believed that if you wanted to resolve to do something bad enough, well by golly you'd go ahead and resolve it right then and be done. Not like turning the calendar over is going to change anything. You're the same person you were on December 31. The coming of a new year doesn't grant you some unforseen ability to do anything new. It just gives you a fresh year to work with. Really though, you get a fresh start every time you wake up in the morning. Meh.
Well, anyway, despite knowing all this full well and believing every word, I've come up with some things I'd like to get done in 2026. These aren't resolutions, per se, like exercise more, spend less, lose weight, etc. You can start doing that stuff any time. I guess what I have come up with instead are... goals?
- Start a new music project every week. A lot simpler than it sounds. A musical project could include a cover of an existing song, and I get a list of songs to learn/play every week for church. I figure this will get me back into recording, I essentially released nothing of my own last year, and I want to get back to creating music to upload somewhere.
- Finish a gospel album by the end of the year. I'm doing this with a friend of mine. We've got a whole bunch of songs picked out, and now we just need to record them. He's bringing in a couple of guys he knows to help out on some of the parts, so it'll be quite a different experience than me just recording everything myself. This should be a lot of fun.
- Launch my custom Music Discovery service by the end of the year. I've been building on it for a while, and it's essentially a bunch of code I wrote for a website built on the terabytes of music I've collected over the years. I have all these super cool features planned, and I want to write them all and have them implemented by the end of 2026. Then when I get them all done, I want to start putting the word out to people, and let them sign up for it. I'm not trying to build anything huge or anything, just a few users is all I'll expect I'll get, none of which I expect to consistently use the service. But, it will be the first such thing I'll have released for anybody else to use necessarily. Much more details to come on that project in a later post.
So, yeah. Just a few things I'd like to have done by the end of the year. I bet I don't get any of them accomplished, because that's just the kind of person I am. I'm an idea guy, I fail at executing on anything that isn't incredibly important. After all, nothing whatsoever will happen if none of these things are finished by next January.
Lah. Thanks for reading.
